The New English

Summer is upon us and what better way to celebrate ‘Picnic Month’ (July) than to plan a trip to the park with your friends and family. You may even prefer to stay at home and set up in your back garden or better yet if there’s more rain than sunshine, you may wish to stay indoors! Either way, we have selected our 5 must haves for your perfect picnic and would love to hear your tips also -
Share them in the comments section below!

Now this is probably the make or break of a picnic. An essential piece to pack all those things that a picnic involves. Food, drinks, utensils and dinnerware. With that being said, it’s important to keep everything in place so try to opt for a wicker basket that has buckled straps and can be carried easily.

We may make exceptions here and there but no one really wants to be sitting on their coats during a picnic so having a picnic blanket to hand is a must. We recommend a high-quality picnic blanket because it makes the experience a lot more comfortable. There’s nothing worse than having a thin fabric to sit on and being able to feel all the bumps amongst the grass and it is also a great way to keep warm for the cooler summer nights.

3) TEA
Some may say “it’s too hot to be drinking tea in this weather” (each to their own) so we’ve discovered an alternative option if you’d rather give the teapot a miss just this once. The answer is ‘Iced Tea’. Whittard of Chelsea have a new ‘Iced Tea Maker’ which is a great way to enjoy a refreshing cup of tea during the hot weather. Their iced tea maker is a simple jug which you can prepare easily before heading off out to your picnic. They also have a wide range of new tea flavours and recipes which are the perfect excuse to try out something new, whether hot or cold, including coffee and hot chocolate.

Sandwiches are compulsory for any picnic but deciding which one may be a challenge. The team at The New English have voted for their favourites so here are our top 3! In 1st place we have the very traditional 'egg & cress', in 2nd place we have a good old ham sandwich and in 3rd place is roast beef! What's you favourite? Comment below!

Now for dessert, you can't forget to pack a treat to please your sweet tooth and of course to accompany your tea. Primrose Bakery in London have just the thing with their cupcake selection boxes! Perfect to share (or not) with your picnic friends, you can choose a selection box with flavours that range from red velvet to a mojito cocktail!
